SCANeR at the Core of GamyraDrive

SCANeR is the world’s leading driving simulation engine. It has been in development for over 30 years and used by more than 250 organizations including car manufacturers, such as BMW, Ford, Volvo, Renault and Mazda, vehicle component manufacturers such as ZF, leading research institutions including the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB), University of Sydney, Monash University, University of Western Australia and Qatar University, and many driver training centres around the world. More than 2,000 SCANeR licenses have been deployed and it has been featured in more than 500 scientific publications to-date.

The GamyraDrive Simulation Platform is built-upon the SCANeR Simulation Engine to cater to education, research, development and training needs.

Gamyra is an official Value Added Reseller of SCANeR. The Gamyra Technology Centre in Doha, Qatar is the only designer, developer, manufacturer and value added reseller of SCANeR-based driving simulation systems in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey (MENAT) region.

Types of SCANeR Licenses

Gamyra offers 4 types of SCANeR licenses to cater to different needs:

  1. Development License: for professional product development and R&D applications
  2. Education License: for education and research applications.
  3. Education Bundle: 10-license bundle for larger educational institutions.
  4. Runtime License: for training organisations that do not do any in-house development.

Once you’ve selected the required type of license, it can then be customised to meet your specific needs. Customisations include:

  • Number of visual channels.
  • Standard vs. custom steering control module.
  • Motion platform support and no. of degrees of freedom.

Optional Add-ons for Education and R&D Applications

The GamyraDrive 5 Pro platform is compatible with a number of optional add-ons to enable advanced education and research applications, including designing, developing and validating driving assistance and autonomous driving systems, and integrations with advanced sensors to measure and analyze a driver’s head movements, eye movements, breathing, heart rate and others. Additionally, a dedicated VR module is available to integrate with Virtual Reality systems.

SCANeR for Education and R&D Applications

The open and modular structure of SCANeR empowers students and researchers to design 3D road environments and driving simulation scenarios, develop test plans, tune their own vehicle dynamics models, validate AI algorithms, interface with off-the-shelf or custom hardware and much more.

Researchers around the world use SCANeR to evaluate drivers’ performance and behavior and carry out studies on drivers’ response to external factors such as road design, signs and markings, traffic density and the behaviour of other road users, and internal factors such as fatigue, drowsiness and the effects of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Beyond traditional usage, SCANeR empowers students and researchers to replace any built-in modules with their own custom modules or algorithms. This allows users to experiment with their own vehicle dynamics models or plug in their own artificial intelligence algorithms. The freedom, independence and autonomy enabled by SCANeR inspire students to be passionate and experimental, and to acquire new knowledge. Examples of the integrations enabled by SCANeR include:

Integration with real vehicle cockpits

Synchronized video recordings

Head tracking

Eye tracking

Breathing and heart rate monitors

Head-mounted VR systems

Why Choose SCANeR?

Choosing SCANeR means becoming a member of a large international community where you can exchange custom scenarios, data and expertise, and where many of the challenges you encounter may have already been resolved by other members of the community. Users love the great versatility of GamyraDrive and SCANeR, the open structure, flexibility to interface with off-the-shelf and custom systems, and respect for standards and APIs – allowing the use of almost any programming language, including Python, C ++ and LabVIEW.
